Seung Hwan Lee, born in South Korea in 1991, began working as a freelancer in Germany after completing his dance training at the Korea National University of Arts. From 2016-2019, he worked with Yoshiko Waki, Sebastian Elier and the Deutsche Oper as well as at project theaters in Münster, Berlin, Nuremberg, Görlitz and Vienna. From 2019 to 2021 he was a dancer with Norrdans in Sweden. In 2017, his solo creation “Unpaved Road” won 2nd prize at the Dutch choreography competition and 1st prize & audience award for the best dance solo at the Euro- Szene competition in Leipzig. In 2021 he presented his solo piece “Soliloquy” at the festival ZUKUNFT TANZT Frankfurt. He continued his choreographic research as part of a residency program in Heidelberg. At the end of 2022, he premiered his trio creation “ANIBODY”, funded by LaFT BW and the City of Mannheim. His solo piece “12.09.2017” was part of the Tanzbiennale Heidelberg 2023. He is currently working with La_Trottier Dance in Mannheim and Backsteinhaus Production in Stuttgart. In addition to his work as a dancer and choreographer, Seung Hwan Lee is actively pursuing a career as a musician. He has received funding for his music project
‘Bodytunes’ and composed soundtracks for various productions, including ‘Urban Mother’, ‘Schneller Als das Licht’, choreographed by David Kwiek, and his own productions ‘Zusammen sind wir Hier’ and ‘ANIBODY’.
