ALBUM, the muse at work – Naïma/n ï m company

ALBUM, the muse at work with dancer Naïma Mazic, drummer, vibraphonist Evi Filippou and a record player, is based on nine of endless songs dedicated to romantic partners of jazzmusicians or written by female composers. Each a space of encounter in a different space, place and/or time: played, danced and/or listened to. Each a place informed by the figure of the muse, manipulating their position as a concept, questioning patriarchal utilization of reproductive and value generating labor. Are these tunes gifts or claiming of ownership? One can hear a history of displacement, of labor and fragmentation within the polyrhythmic black American music. How can we listen closer? ALBUM is also a record with nine love stories. On 23/06, Maeve, Hanna, Evi and Naïma are making and sharing a moving, sounding, feminine Album by co-musing with Carla Bley, Moki Cherry, Mary Lou Williams and more.
