Valentin Alfery – Treasure Flow – Cross Style Principles
Since the worldwide spread over the last five decades, the community of street and club styles has developed general movement principles that transcend style-specific borders. These illusionary, mysterious and yet highly accessible principles occur as pure movement, as well as choreographic-improvisational techniques for arranging material within breaking, popping, locking, hip hop freestyle and many other styles.
In my research I want to extract and explore these principles by facilitating the co-creation of an embodied and video-documented library together with a diverse community of dancers from all styles. To investigate the choreographic potential of cross style principles further, I aim to develop a methodology that inquires audience perception about general aesthetics, references, ideas and visions of the principles – the outcome could fuel future artwork for everyone that participates in the research. As the collected principles and working methods result sharp, rich and individualized movement material that easily intergates to an already existing repertory, this practice is named treasure flow.
