OBSESSION AND PERSPECTIVES
LAB: 7 & 8 September | 10-16h

power/trip is driven by the performer’s obsession with a basketball representing power. Obsession with an object creates a unique perspective for both the performer and the spectator, while generating a dynamic between the performer and the object. How can we free ourselves from such obsession — and when we are indeed free, what does it feel like?

POWER/TRIP
PERFORMANCE: 11 September | 19h, DOUBLE BILL with Katia Pacheco

Power: (1) the ability to control one’s own outcomes and those of others, and (2) the freedom to act. In power/trip, the yellow basketball is a physical representation of power. As a player, the performer embarks on a solitary and deeply personal journey moving through powerlessness, sudden authority, obsessive control, and the physical and emotional constraints that follow. Through releasing obsession, the performer experiences a sense of liberation and inner strength. Yet the power trip is a loop, inevitably pulling them back to the beginning of the cycle.
