INSIDE JOURNEY — GIG
LAB: 11 September | 10 – 16h & 12 September | 10-13h
This workshop offers an insight into the creative process behind Gig, inviting participants to enter the research and physical universe of the piece. We begin by exploring methods for working with biographical material, translating personal memories, experiences, and reflections into movement and spatial composition. Through guided tasks, participants experiment with how intimate material can be abstracted, transformed, and embodied. In the second part, we move into improvisation using fragments of written text and personal reflections as starting points, where voice, presence, and physicality intersect, allowing participants to navigate between structure and spontaneity. To close, we learn a short movement sequence from Gig, connecting the exploratory process to choreographic material from the performance itself. The workshop combines reflection, improvisation, and repertory, offering a practical and embodied understanding of the work’s creation.
GIG
PERFORMANCE: 12 September | 19h
Gig offers an intimate insight into the precarious reality of freelance dance artists in Berlin and beyond. The solo examines the demands of the gig economy, where artists must constantly shift roles, adapt, and sustain their practice with limited support. Set against a post-pandemic backdrop of rising costs and shrinking cultural funding, the work blends dance, spoken text, and direct address. The piece becomes a statement of resilience, reflecting the do-it-yourself conditions of independent art-making. Drawing from her perspective as a migrant artist, Pamela Moraga navigates labor, exhaustion, and identity with both vulnerability and wit. Gig doesn’t only critique; it survives, performs, and speaks back.
