Marlon Barrios Solano

I am Marlon Barrios Solano (Venezuela–USA), an interdisciplinary artist, creative technologist, and researcher working at the intersection of generative AI, performance, creative coding, and critical cognition.

My practice unfolds as a living archive of performances, web applications, code repositories, conceptual notes, and interactive systems. Rather than treating these as separate projects, I develop them as interconnected fragments within an evolving artistic and technical ecosystem. Through this networked approach, I investigate cognition as something distributed across bodies, technologies, histories, and environments.

With a hybrid background in dance, software engineering, and cognitive science, I explore AI as a poetic and cognitive collaborator. My work engages machine learning, algorithmic aesthetics, somatic practices, contemplative traditions, and queer diasporic experience to create lecture-performances, installations, speculative documents, raves, and participatory environments. I describe these frameworks as knowledge dramaturgies: systems in which identity, memory, perception, and computation are remixed through embodied and collective processes.

My current research operates through two main instantiations: Born in Latent Space and Unstable LandscapesBorn in Latent Space is a lecture-performance in which I engage generative AI systems through voice, movement, storytelling, singing, and real-time audiovisual composition. Unstable Landscapes expands this inquiry into distributed environments for collective cognition, where participants, interfaces, and computational processes form emergent systems of shared attention and interaction. Across these modalities, I create environments where performance, computation, and collective imagination converge into evolving systems of embodied knowledge.

Since August 2024, I have served as Maker-in-Residence at the Center for Arts, Migration, and Entrepreneurship (CAME) at the University of Florida, where I also teach in the AI & Art Certificate Program.

My work has been presented internationally and supported by institutions including Motion Bank, ICK Amsterdam, the Gilles Jobin Company, UDK/HZT Berlin, Motions Bank and Lake Studios Berlin. In 2025, I was awarded the Beyond Gravity / Decolonizing the Digital Residency at Theater Im Depot in Dortmund, Germany.

I hold an MFA in Dance and Technology from The Ohio State University, completed the Software Engineering Immersion Program at General Assembly in New York City, and am a certified Mindfulness teacher through Spirit Rock Meditation Center and an Embodyoga® teacher.
