It is an exploration around a 2/3 rhythmic clave and its possibilities of being inhabited. Four performers face the challenge of maintaining the groove — sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t — asking how repetition can become a living event, and how bodies themselves can embody a specific temporality.

30seconds is a physical research on a 30-second movement material. Dancing the sequence forwards and backwards, the material folds and unfolds through time and space.
In this work, I’m interested in the depth of minimal movement material: What reveals itself through continuously returning to the same sequence? What changes in dynamics, physical organization and attention when the material is reversed?
At the center of this research is my curiosity about what the moving body reveals while being occupied with the precise physical task of dancing and reversing the same movement material again and again.

This work comes out of the practice of my own performance improvisation. Central to this practice is our ability to change our perspective, flipping between felt-sense and thought,  between image, what is heard and what is imagined to name a few. We may continue doing the same thing but an internal flip can make this thing into something else. This is an  invitation for the audience to go through 3 states of perception: responding vocally to shape; watching with eyes shut and seeing with internal hearing. 
The invitation is to change the internal shape of our receiving self. A form of shapeshifting.  The piece is based around a song of the same name. It began as a spontaneous lullaby. It echoes the hope of “when your boat comes in,” (a boat full of treasures perhaps), and a more mysterious boat, one that has come for you alone. Its destination is unknowable.

This work-in-progress flirts with a sentence heard at a jazz concert: ‘You should definitely not dance, and do not miss to clap after each solo.’ The research is driven by the idea of how attention translates into care within a composed space, and how care takes tangible and performative forms, invoking a sense of blue vastness as the landscape where allowing, choosing, and withdrawing care take place.
