Children’s Dance Theater

For all young movers and makers (ages 5-12)

with Maika Knoblich & Lynne Scharf

*This course will mainly be taught in German with playful integration of English.

WHAT TO EXPECT
These classes combine movement, improvisation, and performance. The goal is to encourage children to express themselves creatively and gain their first experiences in choreography in a structured and playful way. Together, we will work toward a final performance—a shared goal that connects and motivates us as a group.

Lynne and Maika bring professional experience in contemporary dance, theater, and performance. Using music, rhythm, everyday objects, and plenty of imagination, they create space for humor, curiosity, and togetherness.

THE TEACHERS

MAIKA

In my teaching practice my main tools are affirmative feedback (a focus on what works / is at work) and encouragement to go ahead and try. So that we can learn through making. I trust in the deep satisfaction it can bring when we create things ourselves and instead of consuming them.

LYNNE

Lynne leads playful, imaginative dance classes that combine technique with improvisation, exploration of breath, sound, and the body’s natural rhythms. Using both English and German, she creates a welcoming space where every child can develop confidence, creativity, and joy in movement.

LYNNE SCHARF is a dancer, photographer, and creative artist from New York. She graduated from Bennington College in 2023 with a BFA in Dance and Music and recently deepened her practice through a contemporary dance intensive in Berlin at Tanzfabrik. Her recent works include Oniria, an immersive dream-world performance; Body Rounds for a quartet; a playful acoustic ensemble piece and Ghost Echoes, a collaborative variety show blending the work of dancers and musicians. She approaches dance with curiosity and play, valuing the precision of form without being bound to it and finding contrast and release through improvisation. Her movement practice often explores the natural acoustics of the body, breath, and voice, creating a space where discovery and imagination thrive. In addition to her performance work, she works with Dance Photographfilm as a dance photographer and filmmaker as well as an interviewer and production assistant for projects at LAKE Studios Berlin.
